Introduction

Fernando Tatis Jr. was born on January 2, 1999, in San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic. His father, Fernando Tatis Sr., was a former MLB player who hit two grand slams in one inning in 1999.

Tatis Jr. spent a lot of time in big league clubhouses growing up because of his father. He played in the Dominican Prospect League before being signed by the Chicago White Sox as an international free agent in 2015.

In 2016, before Tatis Jr. had played a professional game, the White Sox traded him to the San Diego Padres for James Shields. He made his MLB debut with the Padres on March 28, 2019.

Tatis Jr. quickly emerged as one of the top young players in baseball. He was ranked as one of the top 3 prospects in MLB prior to the 2019 season. In 2020, he led the NL in power-speed numbers and won the Silver Slugger Award. He made the All-Star team in 2021.

So in summary, Tatis Jr. comes from a baseball family, was signed out of the Dominican Republic, and has rapidly become a superstar with the Padres, winning awards and making the All-Star team in his first few MLB seasons.
